The prestigious drama ‘The Chair’ from Netflix made its debut on August 20th, 2021. The Chair was a major title produced by DB Weiss and David Benioff and featured Sandra Oh. Despite holding a good score on RottenTomatoes, the fate of the series looks bleak. Will it return with The Chair Season 2? The answer is nope, why? Let’s have a look at the comments of the cast.
The producers of the series, DB Weiss and David Benioff, signed a sumptuous deal with Netflix back in 2019. However, they are working on other upcoming projects coming to Netflix instead of The Chair sequel, The Three-Body Problem is a humongous project out of many, which they had filmed throughout the year 2022.
How did The Chair perform on Netflix?
The comedy series was set in a major US university and follows the litigation and misery of the Head of the English department. The show received a highly favorable review from the critics and the audience as well. The series holds 86% of the critic score and 79% of the audience score on RottenTomatoes at the time of writing. Despite the good reception, the series failed to attract much viewership and fared poorly in Netflix’s Top 10 chart. When we looked at the Top 10 hourly viewership data, things came out pretty bad.
The Chair managed to feature in the global top 10 for only one week. To make matters worse, the series didn’t even make it to the top 10 in its first week of debut. To break into the top 10 required over 10.34 million watch hours. The series witnessed a rise in viewership and rank in week 2 with 14.02 million watch hours and rank 4. However, the series fell flat in its third week and never recovered.
Wherever we looked at the figures, things looked much worse. In the series’ production home, the United States, the show stayed in the top 10 for only 7 days. Usually, 28 days are required for the renewal of any show on Netflix. Our expectations were shattered by the performance figures.

Is The Chair Season 2 coming?
Official Status: Canceled (Last Updated: January 11th, 2023)
The show wasn’t released as a limited series and also left the audience with a cliffhanger. That indicates that the series was designed as multiple seasons.
